The Yakima County Development Association (YCDA) announced today that it is sponsoring a photo contest to celebrate the Yakima Valley and showcase local talent.  The association’s 2010 LiveYakimaValley Photo Contest is open to all amateur photographers.  New Vision is excited about this new contest.  We have a great new website that touts our Valley’s lifestyle, but we know it can be even better if we can get fresh lifestyle photos from local artists.  A good picture is worth at least a 1000 words.

The development association is looking for striking digital images celebrating the beauty and unique character of the Yakima Valley. Pictures should be of Valley landmarks, events, places, parks or other subjects that capture the essence of what makes this area such a great place to live, work, play and grow.  To see our contest rules click here.

The Yakima County Development Association is asking contestants to submit photos in one of the following four prize categories:

  • Celebrating Our Culture and Heritage
  • Scenic Landscapes
  • Sports and Recreation
  • Food and Entertainment

New Vision is seeking photographs taken in Yakima County.  Contestants can submit up to five (5) photos.  Entries should be at least 5 megapixels or greater, and submitted in a jpg, RBG format.  Photo entries will be accepted from May 6th through July 9th, 2010.

Prizes for photos will be awarded for the top three entries in each category (ex. Celebrating our Culture and Heritage).  All prize winners will be celebrated and their work featured at an upcoming event.

  • The four Grand Prize winners will each receive: $250 cash and a professionally framed 8×10 of their winning entries.
  • The four Second Prize winners will each receive $125 cash. And
  • The four Third Prize winners will each receive $75 cash.

Judges for the contest include Ken Whitmire, with Whitmire and Associates; Gordon King, photo editor for the Yakima Herald Republic; and Russ Dix, former owner of Idea Marketing.  We are thrilled to have Ken, Gordon, and Russ helping out with our contest.  They bring a ton of experience to the table and we are confident they will do a great job picking our winning photos.
