Yakima County Commissioners Announce Quality Of Life Committee
April 12, 2010 by Lisa Smith
Yakima County’s top elected officials are not taking our Valley’s quality of life for granted. The County Commissioners recently announced that they have created a special quality of life committee to focus on ways the region can maintain and enhance its attractive lifestyle. The group is being formed with the goal of identifying which public investments add the most to our quality of life ranging from parks and pools, to trails and cultural arts. Ultimately the committee will make recommendations to county commissioners surrounding the best approaches to preserve and enhance the region’s lifestyle amenities.
A core committee has been chosen from over 40 applicants. Yakima’s Larry Mattson, a former city councilman, will help co-chair the committee. “Yakima is an outstanding place to live. We are looking to find out what makes our Valley great and how we can make it better.” With the region’s leaders taking this proactive approach, area residents are optimistic that they can find solutions to help maintain key public treasures like parks and swimming pools.
