White Pass Ski Resort Poised To Get Bigger And Better

February 15, 2010 by

For generations Yakima area families have enjoyed winter days on the slopes of White Pass Ski Resort which offers downhill skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and cross-country ski runs.  Only an hour’s drive from Downtown Yakima, the White Pass area also offers hikers, mountain bikers, and boaters an opportunity to take in breathtaking vistas of Mt. Rainier and the Cascade Mountain Range during the summer months.

The resort is one of the region’s top ski areas and its expansion will make it one of Washington state’s top destinations for winter sports.  White Pass is adding two new chair lifts, 15 new ski trails and a new mid-mountain ski lodge.  The expansion increases capacity for daily skiers by 60% and will be largely finished by the start of the 2010-2011 ski season.

White Pass is also noteworthy because it is home base for former Olympic champions Phil and Steve Mahre.  The brothers literally grew up at White Pass and went on to win  Gold (Phil) and Silver (Steve) medals at the 1984 Winter Olympic Games.  The Mahre brothers also won numerous World Cup titles from 1978 through 1984.
